DENTAL BRIDGES

What are Dental Bridges?

Dental bridges are non-removable appliances that fill in the gaps caused by missing teeth. A dental bridge has two crowns on either side of the gap known as abutment teeth, which serve as anchors. In between the abutment teeth are false teeth called pontics. If you have one or more missing teeth and want to fill in the gaps without dental implants, dental bridges might be the solution for you.

What Are the Benefits of Dental Bridges?

The procedure for dental bridges is non-invasive and gives you a more permanent solution to replace missing teeth compared to dentures. When you lose one or more teeth, it is important to fill in the gap before nearby teeth begin to shift, changing the appearance and shape of your face, and altering your bite. With a dental bridge, you can restore your smile and prevent your teeth from shifting out of position. There are many other benefits to receiving dental bridges, which include:

  • Restoring your ability to chew and speak properly
  • Preventing your jawbone from shrinking
  • Preventing your face shape from changing and making you appear older

What Should You Expect During Your Visit for a Dental Bridge?

After your initial exam and consultation, you will come into our office and your dentist will prepare your teeth for the dental bridge. Your dentist will recontour your abutment teeth to allow enough room for the dental bridge components. We will then make impressions of your teeth and send it off to a dental lab so they can create your appliance. We will give you a temporary bridge to wear in order to protect your teeth and gums. Once the dental lab has created your dental bridge, we will call you in for another visit where your new bridge will be placed. Your dentist will make adjustments to ensure that it’s a proper fit and that you are comfortable before cementing the bridge into place.
