Dental Crowns

What are Dental Crowns?

Dental crowns are covers or caps that look like your natural teeth and are used to cover your existing tooth to restore it to its normal look, shape, size, and function. If you have a tooth that is damaged due to decay or trauma and you are feeling self conscious about your smile, you might be the right candidate for a dental crown.

Why Do You Need a Dental Crown?

  • You have a cavity that is too large
You have a tooth that is cracked or weakened
  • You have just had a root canal and you need a dental crown to protect your tooth
  • You have an oddly shaped or severely stained tooth
  • You have have a dental implant

What to Expect for Dental Crown Placement

During the procedure for dental crown placement, we will first perform a thorough exam to check the health of the affected tooth. If any decay has spread deep into the tooth and has reached the roots or pulp, you may need a root canal first. If a root canal is not needed, your dentist will then numb the area for your comfort, remove any signs of decay, and remove a part of your enamel to make enough room for the crown. We will then make impressions of your teeth and send it off to the dental lab. You will receive a temporary crown to protect the tooth until your crown is produced. Once we receive your crown, we will place it in your mouth to ensure it is a proper fit. At AJS Dental, we want to ensure that you are satisfied with your smile. When you and your dentist are happy with the look and feel, your crown will be cemented into place.
